These profoundly important programs have well-documented benefits for older adults. Web42.4% of U.S. adults and 19.3% of U.S. children are obese. Disparities exist based on race-ethnicity, gender, age, geographic region, and socioeconomic status. Food insecurity and obesity can co-exist in the same individual, family, or community. The strongest and most consistent evidence is for a higher risk of obesity among food insecure women.
