WebSep 11, 2008 · In an early 235s with multiple carbs and headers, the 261 cam gives noticeable gains in power, especially above 2000 rpm. That worked well for the early Corvette which was light and more about high rpm than hauling or cruising. It also had the 'new' 848 head with higher compression. WebMay 27, 2024 · As posted above, the 53-55 Corvettes with the 235 engine and Powerglide transmission used mechanical lifters, and most from 1954 onwards used the same cam that I think was used in the all 54-63 USA truck 261 engines. I bought 2 of the higher-lift Corvette 235 cams and one is in a 1954 truck 235 engine in the pickup that I am restoring.
